Paris, France – The new Spring/Summer 2016 collection presented by Raf Simons leaves this writing scratching his head. Upon gazing at it, one has to ask if the designer got his signals crossed on the season. Apart from the revealed stomach and sleeveless tops that appear from time to time, one could easily mistake this latest outing as something more appropriately in tune with the needs of attire for the colder temperatures of late fall or early winter.
It is not surprise that Simons opts for darker colors. Here is essentially using a winter palette of brown, rust, dark gray and black. They cover the wools and knits. The silhouettes are composed of amply confectioned attire that includes large trousers; long unlined coats and tight, short-cropped knit tops. The collection is rounded out with a selection of large bag with giant loops chained together for effect.
In spite of the fabrics which are more than surprising for the season, pieces will find their way into the wardrobe of this writer. But I’ll have to wait a bit and wear them only during the fall of 2016.
