Lodz, Poland – Jacob Birge, the first winner of the Polish edition of Project Runway, has surprised everyone with his collection for Spring/Summer 2016. He usually presents himself as a lover of curves and feminine sexuality. However this time, he has decided to go with futuristic clothes.
The collection as a whole lacks a clear point of view. Though one could see signature shapes that expose the body on the same catwalk as zebra prints, there are the dark rave-inspired garments with neon accents, cellular applications and even ruffles. The placement of the cellular looking application seems a little bit bizarre. Another weak point are the poor color choices with dark orange and light brown, mixed with black and white.
Everything screams too much. And the audience finds it all a bit to hard to interpret. The fabrics give an impression of stiffness and heaviness, especially because of the visible zippers. Another minus are the badly created sets with strikingly mismatched pieces.
Some of the clothes recall of cheap clothes that an older woman would buy at a local bazaar. In essence, they strive to look modern but somehow just cannot get the ball across the finish line.
Maybe one can find some pieces worth while among the rare saving graces. However as a whole, the collection is a mistake.
