Paris, France – Italian designer Federico Cina is one of the rising talents of his generation. This past summer he participated in the 9th edition of the FashionClash Festival. Held in Maastricht, Netherlands, this international multidisciplinary event is known for introducing fresh, new and innovative fashion designers to international media, buyers and influencers. It was there that TheFashionInsider.com Magazine first discovered him. So impressed with his work, he became an instant favorite and received the honor of becoming one of our “Three to Watch Award”.
Federico Cina was born in Cesena (ITALY) on July 4, 1994. A natural-born artist, he says of himself, “I have always been a child with a thousand passions. Whenever I painted a picture, I was already thinking about what I could do next, even before finishing it. I had no peace.”
In his early youth, he struggled to find the precise pathway that would allow him to canalize and express the depth of his creative talents. While in high school, he considered a career as an interior designer or even as a hairstylist. But waking up every morning, he knew that creating something new must be a part of his destiny. Once settling upon a career in fashion, he realized that fashion designing offers him the opportunity to express himself in a way that allows him to dress people with his own emotions; something he says is very rewarding.
We asked Federico Cina to respond to a few questions in this get to know him interview. The following are excerpts from that conversation.
TFI.com: Why did you decide to become a designer?
Federico Cina: “As a child, I often did not feel in the same league as the others around me. I was trying to figure out what they had more than me. Of course, the exterior image is the first thing that catches your eye, so I always observed the people, to understand their weaknesses and how they hide their insecurities.
The obsession for aesthetics and especially for fashion became more and more intense. I decided to graduate in Fashion Design at Polimoda. That is where I believe my passion was fully unleashed and my desire to live up to every situation became concrete.”
TFI.com: What does it mean to have your work recognized by being selected for participation in the 2017 Edition of the FashionClash?
Federico Cina: “Participating in the 2017 edition of the Fashionclash was very fantastic. It was also because my boyfriend Simone botte (Simon Cracker) was also selected. For us it was the first time we presented collections in the same contest.
Fashionclash 2017 had impeccable organization and show planning. We designers have been able to design the show also in smallest details, under expert eyes. The energy was very positive, like a family. I didn’t expect to win, but in fact, when announcing it, I was very enthusiast. I’m really grateful to Fashionclash.”
TFI.com: Through your experiences that led to you winning awards, what do you think that you learn most about yourself as a designer?
Federico Cina: “Every time I participate in a contest, I always learn so much. Competing against other designers from around the world opens up the mind. We exchange opinions and advice, and it’s really always very nice.
My family has always taught me to stay very humble and simple, and even during contests because it is important. And because there are really many good designers around the world, there will always be somebody better than you. I learned to believe in myself, but with my feet on the floor, and without being pretentious.”
