The Shape that John Built

Milan, Italy – If “This Is the House That Jack Built”, then the hourglass is the shape that John Varvatos has built into his new Spring/Summer 2014 collection. The result is something is something very appealing and different for the American designer.

As expected Varvatos keeps the silhouettes close to the body. However, his inspiration for the hourglass can be seen in the cut of the blazers. His have strong shoulders and longer length to elongate the body. The center is done in order to work well with the midsection. In this sense, it does not matter if one is tall and slim or short and dumpy, the elongation is the inevitable result thanks to this cuts.

Varvatos has used extremely thin materials in the creation of some of his jackets. Some are like veil while the other is extremely anorexic leather. This latter is used as well in his short-cropped blazers.

A great deal of military detailing goes into the collection. We see rope cords and buttons adding to the overall chic of the collection.  That when added to the little bow ties, makes for some very welcomed surprises by Varvatos.
