Novi Sad, Serbia – In his native Romania the designer Florin Dobre is already a superstar among menswear names. After a first showing in Paris 2 years ago and now with presentations and happenings in London since the past year and a half, his reputation as a skilled craftsman with a strong eye for retro-classical chic has grown on an astronomical and exponential scale.
Now this season he brings his wears to Novi Sad to the Serbia Fashion Week. But would his tastes be enough to conquer here as well?
Projecting a video of his current collection and that had been previously filmed in London as the backdrop to his show; the designer sent forth his models to the sounds of the Verve’s “Bittersweet Symphony”. From the very first silhouette, it became clear that nothing would stop him from conquering the Balkan country.
Dobre made a splash with the presentation of his of smartly cut suits; fitted trousers; lively hats and decorative details such as his ring hook ties in silver chrome and black leather. Some double-breasted, some single breasted, but all is punctuated with freshly muted pastels hues.
In his presentation we have the unusual pleasure of seeing the male models running like kids and even hopping and skipping. This simple but clever demonstration showed the power of positive fashion thought and how it can bring joy to the masses. And during the show one model proudly with a gigantic Serbian flag on his shoulders.
Once the show was over, there was no doubt in the minds of any that Florin Dobre is a force with which the world will be glad to reckon. And beyond that, he now includes the Balkans as the latest region in the world to fall to the undeniable charms of his designs.
