Novi Sad, Serbia – With her Spring/Summer 2015 collection, Jovana Petkovic makes a strong debut to her career as a professional fashion designer. The collection features an ensemble of cocktail dresses, evening gowns and jumpsuits for the season.
She begins the collections with a black body suit in lace and with a long, tiered train. The same black lace is used in a form-fitting gown and in an elegant cocktail dress with long sleeves that follow. From there it looked as if she would have the one of best debut collections of any young designer. But then the errors that many young designers make started to creep in.
In some of the cocktail dresses, Petkovic fails to properly fit them to the models. This is a fashion show and each dress must have a good fit on the models body. Then in her two-piece off white skirt ensemble, she adds two tiers of black lace at the waist. Why? It serves no purpose at all other than to be the most unnecessary of embellishments. It is a shame because the look is strong enough without it. And it brings nothing to the silhouette other than to leave unanswered questions around its existence. But as stated earlier, these are very common errors among young designers.
Beyond these annoying faux pas, the collection is cohesive. And more importantly it shows the very real potential of Ms. Petkovic as a womenswear designer.
