Florence, Italy – Designer Margaret Howell has opened a standalone shop and production office at 5R Piazza Carlo Goldoni. The flagship shop sells both the women’s and men’s clothing collections and accessories, as well as a selection of home products, reissue and vintage furniture.
“For the past ten years I have worked with Will Russell on the design of our shop interiors”, says Margaret Howell. “Whilst incorporating my ideas, Will always adds something that just wouldn’t occur to me – a special spatial vision – resulting in a rewarding and successful working relationship.”
These products reflect Margaret’s interest in British mid-century and contemporary designs and are displayed throughout. The building is on two levels with the upper level housing the first production office outside the UK.
The shop and office are located in the centre of Florence next to the river Arno. There are six windows overlooking the square showcasing British and Italian manufacture. The interior has been designed by William Russell of Pentagram Architects and reflects the original design Russell created for Margaret Howell on Wigmore Street, London W1 in 2002.
Howell also went to state:
“With more than half our products made in England the Piazza Goldoni shop displays the best of what we do in a beautiful building in the centre of Florence. Having combined production office and retail shop in Florence will make the company closer to our Italian suppliers as well as showing our products to an international market.”
Russell has created an interior concept designed to unify the in-store experience across the company’s international retail outlets. Clothes rails and shelving line the walls and a full height Vitsœ shelving system is used to display a mix of accessories, clothes and home products.
