MARIJA SABIC Fall Winter 2015/16

Novi Sad, Serbia – The designer MarijaSabic is full of pleasant surprises this season. Known for her elegant creations and classical presentations that have in the past included ballet performances, she decided to shake the tables and opt for a more contemporary showing.

She opened the show to the sounds of Indila’s “LOVE STORY”, the audience expected this as a sign of the show just being business as usual. First a model took to the catwalk with a beautifully coiffed chignon. She wore an of-the-should royal blue lace cocktail dress. After she took a seat on the catwalk next to the audience members, both the music and mood suddenly changed. At this point the real show began.

From this point on Sabic, who is known as one of Serbia’s top couturiers and specialist in formal occasion wear, sent the rest of the collection out to the sounds of Donna Summer’s sexually charged, “LOVE TO LOVE YOU BABY”! The models all wore Hollywood hair in the fashion of screen legend, Veronica Lake! They moved and floated through the air in the designer’s sublime creations that were in the rule of body-hugging sheath dresses and jumpsuits. The dresses are dominated by the currently indispensable peekaboo cutouts that define modern elegance in couture.

Lace and sheer materials are the fabrics of choice for Marija Sabic. She knows its as well as an astronomer knows the stars. This is evident to the eye once one observes her ornate appliqués. However, she is able to fashion her fabrics of black, blue, silvery white and gold into nearly dangerous pieces for women. To balance it out, she adds in of course the jumpsuits, which also serve to calm the atmosphere when things nearly heat up too much.

The show hit climax after climax. They only ended with the models all aligned from the start to the end of the catwalk and while still to the ever louder and louder cries of “LOVE TO LOVE YOU BABY”! And then the seasoned couturier added a last surprise. She came out to a violently wild round applause and to the sound of Nicki Minaj’s “ANACONDA”!

In the end the more than 800 person in attendance at the show realized that not only did they see a spectacular collection, but they too suddenly realized that Marija Sabic is youthful and hip !
