Milan, Italy – Donatella Versace’s creativity seems to have more lives than a three-legged cat on a Russian roller coaster. There can be no other way of explaining how she skillfully moves the house of Versace from one vision to the next and with little effort and while still keeping the collection true to the Versace Universe!
As one will recall in one of her recent collections for Atelier Versace, she went against the grain of fashion and re-introduced the flair legged trousers and jumpsuits. Then as if by magic, more than 40% of all other houses both major (and lesser ones too) quickly put out the same in their ready-to-wear collections. Now Donatella has decided to shake the tables once again by going in a whole new direction: MASCULINE CHIC !
In her own words, Donatella Versace commented, “This is a collection for the way women live their lives today, mixing tailoring with sportswear and effortless glamour.”
The new Spring/Summer 2016 Versace collection is far more tough this season. Gone is the overt sexual domination that the Versace woman traditionally exudes with so much confidence. In its place we find pinstripes, utility jackets, structure and a craftsmanship that equals that of men’s tailoring. But hold on! Donatella is keenly aware that no matter, the Versace woman must be a woman. And in that she honors her with hints of powerful femininity.
Versace sculpts the waist in the tailored pieces. She mixes in chiffon and Jacquard. Then she grants sky-high splits to her skirts. As the Versace woman moves, we see her printed chiffon flowing behind her. That is a statement alone. And to punctuate this, she adds sequins to the heels and to the platform sandals.
