Paris, France – An industrial setting combined with a muted color palette offset with vibrant accents is set against the backdrop of a strong silhouette. Atsuro Tayama starts with well-cultivated designs that are inspired for the office. They are perfect for the modern woman. This Japanese designer is known for his sophisticated yet stylish androgynous suits. With this Spring/Summer 2016 collection Tayama most definitely proves his excellence once again.
Pinstripes and strong cuts are a recurring theme within the pieces. Later we see the introduction of a more ‘off duty’ business-inspired look such as oversized boyfriend shirts. Slowly but surely we see flashes of color in the designs in the form of blue and green accents. As the collection progresses the garments become more flowing and loose-fitting. They are nicely juxtaposed to the more structured business styles previously. Once the casual line starts we see the arrival of denim, culottes and bright color accents such as orange and blue combined with flowing layers of organza, counterbalanced with crochet vest’s and dresses.
Despite the fact that the pieces are loose-fitting and flowing, the waist is very much a focal point creating a sense of femininity and elegance.
Another notable point in the collection is how Atsuro Tayama combines structured styles with loose-fitting garments. He implements pinstripes and fringe detailing, which helps to create a sense of playfulness. This is a trait typical of Atsuro Tayama as he always adds a touch of ‘airness and complexity’ into his collections, demonstrating his creative yet practical view on ready-to-wear.
It wasn’t necessary to use many accessories as the designs speak for themselves. This trait follows with hair, which is kept very minimal. The only power accent was the use of a ‘bold eye’ created using strong graphic eyeliner, a striking look for a powerful woman.
In retrospect, Atsuro Tayama’s collection combines both well structured and delicate pieces that both provide light and shade, creating a series of cohesive looks that are a representation of the modern woman.
