Paris, France – The Martin Grant Spring/Summer 2016 collection kicks off serenaded to the sound of the Rolling Stones ‘she’s like a rainbow’ but don’t let the title fool you there isn’t a multi-coloured spectrum insight, However, one lyric sings true ‘have you seen her dressed in blue’ and this collection is certainly an ode to blue hues.

The Australian-born designer, who has become an honorary Parisian and this collection reflects that, with these simple yet chic pieces true to Grants style, In this collection he injects a casual element into his designs that provide light and shade to the classic pieces. Shaping plays a major element from asymmetrical cuts to mandarin collars that provide an element of understated chic. Each garment is constructed to create a direct relationship between the body as a structural form. The designer always creates a focal point that emphasises the female form that adds a sense of femininity from belted wastes to empire bands that help to pull everything together.

Grant incorporates various fabrics and materials within this collection that give it a heightened element of intrigue, from lightweight dark denim accented with leather to raffia-coloured linen wide-leg trousers with fringed edges. The colour palette remains quite muted in tones of navy, cream and black, however, it’s the blue accenting in the form of colour blocking and painterly prints which play a starring role, injecting some life into the collection. on the other hand, what this collections lacks in colour diversity it more than well makes up for it in the cut. Each piece is offset with fine structure and tailoring that gives the designs their sharp edges yet combined with soft flowing feminine details.

The designer includes a selection of wardrobe staple pieces in classic styles from trench and pea shape coats to a-line skirts this collection has it all, the diversity in this collection contributes to its wearability. Grant’s work is about heightened elegance and uncluttered modernity, a representation of the modern woman and these pieces are a testament to that.
