Paris, France – It’s incredible how Elie Saab has grown as both a couturier and ready-to-wear designer. This writer knows this personally because for many years I attended each of his fashion shows for couture, then “haute couture” and finally ready-to-wear.

Those first ready-to-wear collections were a bit “iffy”. They immediately revealed that Saab would require time to devolve from the high fantasy and excessive fortune of haute couture in order to produce garments worthy of his name, yet more readily accessible to the small masses. These “small masses” have more money to spend on high-end fashion but perhaps not as much for haute couture. But they have the need to be remarkable when they step into a room. That brings us to the new Spring/Summer 2016 ready-to-wear collection by Elie Saab.

In this new opus of glamour for the season, Elie Saab shows just how far he has grown into being a true champion of luxury ready-to-wear. This new collection puts forth both short cut dresses for daily occasions, cocktail dresses, party pieces and full length gowns. Though black and white are the dominate colors, the palette does enjoy its fair share of bold colors such as red, stripes and even prints.

Saab uses quite a lot of laces in the dresses of all lengths. It’s wonderful to see that he does manage to throw in a piece or two in muted sequins. But the lace and the knitted pieces are too strong to not take their rightful place at center stage. Saab is not really known as a pants and trousers maker. But one has to appreciate his efforts to include them in his sizzling hot sportswear set of white jacket and pants. This is without a doubt a tip of the hat to the active Saab client, who has to be on the move between shopping and lunching with the friends and partying at hip rock concerts.

The ribbons are a very familiar accent to Saab’s creations. Appearing around the neck, they make each piece look daringly sophisticated. The accessories range from a selection of bags and shoes to necklaces and thin belts. The whole is a strong composition fit for the best of Spring/Summer 2016.
