Lviv, Ukraine – Designer Victor Cherkaskyy sets the mood for a successful presentation with a video projection that features the sounds of the Beatles 1965 Baroque rock hit, “Yesterday“. That opened the show to silhouettes with a hippy tone, lots of color and attitude.
The new collection jump starts with a huge tip of the hat to the early months of spring in which we are still quivering from the cold air. First there are lots of coats with hints of orange. Then we have tassels, and matching colorful bags. From the moment we see the addition of denim into the collection, we see the mood and the heavy fabrics lighten up. The pants legs begin to flare dramatically. The tops have ethnic appeal to them. Little string headbands are worn over the models loose hair as the only head accessory. Light cotton denim is used to create long dresses with a huge split. This shape is repeated in other fabrics and colors.
The collection has a lot of tights that are doubling as pants. Cherkaskyy’s are extremely colorful and graphic. This is a welcomed relief to this portion of the collection, whose shapes have become a bit too boxy.
When the collection has progressed to its end, we have the impression of having been truly transported back in time a bit to a place that allowed us to make choices for today’s wardrobe. This is a truly authentic collection in which we can feel the spirit of May 1968 in the air.
