Novi Sad, Serbia – It has literally been years since the end of the first decade of this young century where this fashion critic attended a catwalk show of the legendary Greek fashion house Kathy Heyndels. And since that time I can undoubtedly state that the years have been good to the creativity powers of its designs.
Recently the Serbia Fashion Week, the 5th largest fashion week in Europe, signed a cooperation agreement with the Athens Xclusive Design Week. Thanks to that happy event Kathy Heyndels showed its new Spring/Summer 2016 collection at the Serbia Fashion Week. Not only is this a first for this fashion week to receive the house, but it also marks the first time that Kathy Heyndels has accepted to show on Serbian soil.
More than 98.5% of the collection is done in black. The house is working on a theme of sex appeal and modern glamour. To express this, the designs have incorporated lots of lace, tulle, silk crepe, sheers and leather to create its cocktail dresses and gowns. Though these latter two dominate the garments, there are also the occasional pants, leggings and hot pants.
Kathy Heyndels fascinates us as it pushes forth its direct sense of style. It shows no notion of mercy as it sends forth one feminine silhouette after the other. This is achieved not only through cut and fit, but also through a skilful play on subtle sensuality. And when the Heyndel Woman moves through space and through time, she automatically becomes the center of attention as if she were born into the very role.
From a technical point of view, no serious reproaches can be made against the collection. The house masters its technique of creating checker boarding its leathers. Then it tosses in hot pants and lace stockings too. Once conjugated together, these elements make for one of the most powerful moments of the season !
