Novi Sad, Serbia – Designer Vasilije Kovacev has once again decided to dramatically change the aesthetics of his universe. Unfortunately in his new Spring/Summer 2016 outing, there seems to be more concept and not enough real substance to support his ideas.

Starting with the menswear, we find the designer working with black and white. The fabrics make you think that it’s leather, but it is not. The many straps are used to highlight the silhouettes in cotton denim. Some of the highlights are nearly chaps! Silver button details. Most of the men’s silhouettes are solid. Though the research is there, the result on the catwalk demands a bit more.

In the women’s Kovacev seems to have lost all interest in trying to innovate and offer something worth seeing. He creates cocktail dresses and gives them some embellishments such as flaps and draping. With his silk, tulle and silver zipper details, he makes the bust and the waist are the star.

This is not the most complete collection by the designer Vasilije Kovacev. But as I always say, designers  have the right to experiment and not get it right. And this is the case with Kovacev. With its lack of interest, the womenswear offered absolutely nothing to fashion. And to be brutally honest, there was nothing interesting about it.

To end this review, this writer and experienced fashion critic would encourage the designer to either step up his game in his womenswear or abandon it all together. This may be the best for him as it would allow him to fully focus on developing his menswear. In all objectivity, his true vision seems to be more reserved for making inspiring menswear than womenswear. And  he seems to be far more enthusiastic about innovating menswear.
