St. Petersburg, Russia – Looking at the newest collection by Julia Veliugo for Spring/Summer 2016, one can find an inspiration with the geometrical abstract painting of modern artists like Piet Mondarin.
The simplistic forms of the garments are a great canvas for bold shapes in vivid colors. The work consists of basic coats, pants, bermuda shorts, jackets, dresses, skirts, tops and long sleeves. Like the abstract painting each silhouette features contrasting graphic shapes with mainly black & white with touches of blue, yellow, red and orange.
Most of the fabrics are simple and crisp and with some black satin shining. Some looks are loose and more sporty. Yet one can find boxy, straight forms as well. Maybe there is nothing unusual about this work. And it’s not innovative in any way, but the retro pop art trend is still popular in today’s fashion.
