Milan, Italy – Diesel Black Gold presented today its new collection for the Fall Winter 2016/17 season. And in it we mostly the “usual suspects” of today’s menswear mixed in with just a few creative pieces. These latter are what give the collection a bit of a personality.
This new collection has no edge. It seems very easily to be an amalgamation of the most commercial pieces that most houses toss into their own collections for good measure. However where other houses use those “showroom” pieces as necessary accents to more creative garments with less mass commercial appeal, this Diesel Black Gold collection seems to be taking the opposite route. Rather than pushing forth with the hard rock, urban sleekness for which the label is known, it rather retreated to the indifference of doing what we have already seen time and time again, and what we will still see time and time again once the catwalk shows move to Paris.
True this collection will sell. However, this is rather a shame as it comes out as having taken the all too easy way out.
The collection does present individual pieces that are truly worthy of note. The coats that have been inspired by the cloaks are perhaps the most fashion forward pieces in the collection. They get on very well together with the bottom portion of the silhouettes, which have been made deliberately slim to the body. Thanks to them and a very few other individual pieces, the collection somehow manages to separate itself from the pack of other more commercial lines.
