Paris, France – Spring is the season that does right by couturier Georges Hobeika. He loves its colors, its freshness and the possibilities that it brings for transcending his couture. This season he wants to take that and make it more evident than ever before with a huge cast of colors and hand-made embroideries that recall of Mother Nature’s generous and bountiful natural gifts.
Pastel colors such as pink, peach, blue and mint green open the affair for Spring/Summer 2016. We find beautiful silk chiffon gowns that have been re-embroidered with stunning crystal works. Hundreds of floral appliqués have been applied by hand. Whether they are short cocktail dresses, long gowns or even full volume ballroom, it does not matter fore Hobeika has blessed them with blooming flowers. Where he refrains from using crystals to express nature so overtly, we find it still represented in a simple belt with a flower buckle or in arm bracelets.
One cannot decide if one prefers the sheath gown creations more or if one would rather champion the ballroom shapes in which the wist is a huge star. Either way we love them too with their trains, which are also included on the back of the jumpsuits.
Over the years this writer has attended most of the shows organized in Paris by Georges Hobeika. And with the passing of each season, I am always amazed at how the couturier still manages to improve time after time. He does it as if his very life depends upon it. And it so nice to also see how he deepens his knowledge of new techniques and how his creations ultimately benefits from that learning.
