Paris, France – Schiaparelli is literally serving images of elegant feasting times in its new collection. The Spring/Summer 2016 collection begins with a simple maxi dress with prints of fine china, a wine bottle, table candles, etc. The perpendicular lines may also serve to remind us of the summer table-cloth that the elegant casual client may use at her Sunday picnic. This same dress is important because it serves as the base model for many others here.
The waistline serves as a true line of demarcation in the vast majority of the silhouettes. Above it we see a simple, uncovered neckline, and below we find fabrics extending most often to the ankles. The Schiaparelli woman does bear skin in the legs this season. She does so in her two-piece skirt suits and in her short, mini-dress daywear suits. However it is clear that she is more concerned with evening time as she wears long bottoms from the waist below that recreated in soft silk chiffon.
Prints and embroideries are important in this collection. As it is spring, it comes as no surprise that Schiaparelli loves florals, fruit and vegetables in both. And of course we find a lobster somewhere in the mix as a throwback to the unexpected quirkiness of the house’s founder, Elsa Schiaparelli.
