Amsterdam, Netherlands – For Spring/Summer 2017 collection, Les Hommes is taking us on a journey to South America at the time of the Conquistadors. From oversized sweaters to suits with mesh details, it is interesting to see how Les Hommes manages to show a lot of variety while sticking to a very strong signature style.
The Belgian duo starts strong with army green designs, with details which remind us of bulletproof vests. Shimmer and mesh fabrics are combined in several layers. Shirts are knitted double with different length nets, while shorts are worn over contrasting mid-calf sandals. Oversized pockets, bomber jackets and ties are returning motives throughout the collection. A notable element of the catwalk presentation is how classic white shirts are combined with a military style. These are two contrasting styles that turn out to work perfectly together.
Les Hommes manages to combine the original style of the Conquistadors with the one of Central American populations, very cleverly so. Bomber jackets and sweatshirts display metallic embroideries that combine the strictness of the decorations of the Conquistadors with nature-inspired body paint of Central America populations.
Furthermore, the trousers are shortened and enriched by large pockets, and biker trousers are adapted to suit subtropical forests, juxtaposed to real cargo pants. Also the colors are a mixture of cultures with the military color palette is green, white and black. These colors are combined with contrasting golden or silver zippers, which refer to both Mayan decorations, as well as military details.
This Spring/Summer 2017 collection shows that Les Hommes is very skilled in combining seemingly contrasting styles to create a beautiful cohesive look. A look that we will definitely be looking forward to wear next year!
