Paris, France – This writer has often said (and quite very publicly too) that Rami al Ali is potentially the most dangerous threat to the haute couture establishment. His creations literally leave one breathless. And he has no shortage of ideas for dressing his clientel.
Born in Syria, Rami al Ali made a name in the United Arab Emirates for himself as an elite couturier. He established his business in Dubai, yet chooses Paris to unveil his new collections. This time he upgraded his showmanship’s game and opted to move on over to the Place Vendôme.
The secret to this writer’s admiration of Rami al Ali ‘s work is not so much a real secret. However it is well founded in facts. And those facts are based in the couturier’s superior draping technique. And to be quite frank, there is no other couturier presenting today in Paris who is doing draping on the level of Rami al Ali. He has demonstrated time and time again his ability to create forms and structure that would lead people to believe that his garments are cut and stitched together from various pieces of fabric. However instead upon close examination, one is literally STUNNED to learn that his structures are greatly created from draping.
This Fall Winter 2016/17 collection very much so enjoys all of al Ali’s technique and skill. The amazing thing is that he has found the perfect combination of style, taste and composition. This is not such an easy feat to accomplish as the couturier must always walk a fine line in satisfying the needs of his clients. While many want the fairytale glamour of a princess, they all demand the pragmatism of an East Coast socialite. — And it’s all here folks…BRAVO ONCE AGAIN!
