Madrid, Spain – This season the Spanish designer Amaya Arzuaga is celebrating 20 years on the catwalk. To honor that milestone in her career, she created a new collection, which is a mix between the past, present and future. We are able to see a selection of previous collections, which have been combined with a part of the newest designs from the fashion label. Even though these two styles are quite different, they have one thing in common: sculptural excellency.
The designer’s Spring/Summer 2017 collection has classy black and white designs. They are intermixed with modern materials such as plastic and bright colors. This results in a very interesting visual effect. The designer is clearly focused on creating new shapes with her designs, for which she uses the layering of chiffon, or synthetic materials. This inadvertently reminds us of the work of the Dutch designer Iris van Herpen.
There is an opposition between classic and modern, and then finally between colorful or neutral. All of the models look just as strong and beautiful. The execution of the Spring/Summer 2017 collection is absolutely flawless, which ensures a high quality level.
Some of this writer’ personal favorites are the long transparent mesh dresses, which have been combined with opaque oversized coats. The sculptural chiffon layering techniques and the silk designs are also personal favorites.
Amaya Arzuaga knows how to show her expertise, which she gained through many years of hard work. This collection is the perfect tribute to the fashion label. Wearable? Not really. Admirable? Definitely!
