Paris, France – There are a vast number of undeniable certainties in life: Bernie Sanders was cheated out of the 2016 democratic presidential nomination.Whitney Houston was indeed the greatest vocalist of our time. The moon is fixed in the orbit of the Earth as it in turn revolves around the sun. And to those inalienable truths, this writer adds that the house of Wooyoungmi for its singular ability to innovate.

This season Wooyoungmi is working around the theme of “The Young Poet”. The mother/daughter duo of house’s Founder & Artistic Director Madame Woo and her daugher & Co-Artistic Director Ms. Katie Chung, began this new chapter with observations of the striking Oscar Wilde portraits photographed by Napoléon Sarony. That led them into imagining other things. They became curious about the artist and intellectual minds that influenced the late 19th Century and early 20th Century. They were eager to learn about the athletes and the minds that powered the Arts & Crafts movement from this genteel Victorian period. Their deep reflection led them into imaging new composite figure of Oscar Wilde. This is how they evolved him as the muse of their new Fall Winter 2017/18 collection.

Madame Woo and Ms. Chung next started with rich, wintry textures such as tweed, wool, knits, corduroys, velvets, etc. They shaped and forged them into elegant silhouettes with appeal and revelance for the ever-evolving tastes of today’s stylish men. The wardrobe has structure and fine tailoring (per the legend of Wooyoungmi) through the coats and suits blazers. Yet it also possesses a relaxed air in these very same pieces and in the pants.

The trousers are amply cut to comfortable proportions. They are finished at the ankles with either large ribbed bandings or with very visable four-inches cuffs. They are paired with hooded sweaters, zip-collar tops, button-down shirts with detachable and romantic ruffles. The silhouettes come together with the aid of the outerwear pieces like the large puffer coats, the peignoir coats, peacoats and oversized teddy-boy jackets.

In the collection knitwear brings a certainty of détente émotionnelle. The jogging pants introduce more comfort. The looks and individual pieces that form the collection are finally united by the creative and attractive footwear.
