Paris, France – It is at the Grand Hotel Intercontinental where the superstar Japanese couturier Madame Yumi Katsura presented her new couture collection for Spring/Summer 2017. In it she brought with her tradition and skill mixed with today’s notion of extreme luxury.
Before the show began, Mme. Katsura sat with TheFashionInsider.com team for an exclusive interview. Speaking through an interpreter, she explained that her research took her back three hundred years in time. She spoke of the technique and the beauty behind the work that is required to bring everything together for this new chapter in her namesake house’s storied history! Thanks to this dedication to preparation, we found beautiful gowns done in an array of silks with satin highlights, colors, and wonderful imagery such as rabbits, seals, peacocks, parrots, tigers, octopus, etc. They are part of additional backgrounds of the sea or of jungles that have been also illustated with tropical leaves or quiet waves.
Couture is Mme. Katsura’s lifeforce, and therefore holds very secrets for her. So it goes without saying that she takes her collection as the showplace where she modernizes the traditional Japanese kimono. Like her gowns before, she presented them in a dazzling succession for dramatic effect. Each has been personalized with its own distinctive handmade embroidery work that illustrates the flowers, leaves, flying birds and other animals precious to Yumi Katsura.
And on a final note, the beauty proposed for Spring/Summer 2017 takes it inspiration from Mme. Katsura! She proposes a pale skin with vivid red lipstick and colored cheeks. And the hairstyle — composed of bangs on the forehead and an open back turban — is the very one for which the couturier is known for wearing !
