Arlington (VA), USA – Debuting at Jil Sander with their first collection are the newly appointed creative directors husband and wife team Lucie and Luke Meier. Each has served at various esteemed fashion houses and will now bring a combined fresh take on well-established aesthetics of the house.
“We feel personally attached to Jil Sander, so our vision is deeply rooted that it is future-oriented,” says Luke Meier. “The brand has its own DNA, an approach to design that specifies codes – like having carte blanche, but in a definite context.”
Lucie Meier adds that the idea is to innovate sustainably. “We have created pieces that we identify, to which we attribute a soul.”
In the new Spring/Summer 2018 collection, timeless classics such as the white shirt are sprinkled throughout with different proportions emitting a casual feel, but at the same time creates a dressy look. Masculine silhouettes are masterfully fused in the foundation of the collection. Jackets are structured while topcoats have a soft, slight trapezey, swingy feel.
Volume is a key design element. The Meiers have incorporated soft feather weight grey tones with textures and light pops of color. To maintain its core identity, the simple signature Jil Sander logo is shown on a fine nylon T-shirt indicating that the line’s identity will remain unchanged, determined to move steadfastly forward into the future with its soul firmly intact.
