Paris, France – The Danish designer Henrik Vibskov is one of those names that is self-driven. He is an independent thinker, musician and creative talent. His liberty of thought leads us into his new collection for Spring/Summer 2018 and in which he has decided to explore what happens when items and objects “sleep”.
In his exploration of the subconsciousness that “awakens” during the sleep phase of life, Henrik Vibskov decided to take us into the rue des Ecoles, which is known for being the location of some of the best medical schools in Paris. Here he revealed to his audience a collection filled with slightly oversized pullover tops, lightly tailored jackets, pieces with large pockets and shorts with big volumes. His penchant for adding in pop art styled colors and little scenarios is well present in the collection. In fact many of the garments cause us to turn our heads back to the pieces for a second look. In this, one must include the colorful and cheerfully happy socks. The humor that the designer has infused into the collection is absolutely infectious !
All of the looks are 100% wearable. Among the most appealing are those with the jumpsuits. It seems that one simply cannot be a good menswear designer these days without making the venture into the land of onesies. However that said, there is a section that does indeed recall of Thom Browne’s work for both his eponymous label and the work that he does for Moncler Gamme Bleu. However, we are not going to hold that against him. After all, a good idea is A DAMN GOOD IDEA.
When one takes into account the overall collection with its large offering of hats, eyewear, socks, belts scarves and shoes, one has the distinct impression that this is one of Henrik Vibskov’s best collections. Some may argue that it is his absolute best work yet.
