Paris, France – Something is positively going on over at Georges Chakra. His new couture collection for Fall Winter 2017/18 somehow managed to recapture an energy and an excitement that had been missing over the last season or two. The crazy thing is that before seeing this collection, none of us had actually suspected that Chakra was relaxing a bit.
Each season we faithfully attend the couture shows in Paris staged by the talented Mr. Chakra. And each season he takes a bow to well deserved rounds of thunderous applause. However this season, the hands clap harder and faster. And we madly screamed loud cries of “BRAVO! BRAVO GEORGES! BRAVO” just a bit louder. Well it can all be summed up in the fact that the collection ended much in the way that it had started. That is to say with a high-octane energy coupled with a sexy edge.
From the moment the first silhouette — a look of a short party dress in three colors with ostrich feathers and matching thigh-high boots — hit the catwalk, the audience could feel a certain electricity in the air. It is a most daring addition to Chakra’s overall aesthetic. From there more dazzling looks would hit the catwalk and that would be paired with exciting boots. The couturier would include silhouettes in chiffon, silk, and the collection’s ultimate velvet. This latter would compose not only some of the most elegant looks in the entire collection, but also some of its most sassy.
This season Georges Chakra steers away overdoing flashy looks. He does create pieces in sequins, crystals and even appliqués. However the velvet has a soothing effect on the entire collection and allows for us to observe better the detail of the construction of each piece. And this is where we can appreciate the level of work that goes into making each piece.
This collection represents a significant shift in Georges Chakra’s aesthetic. Sophisticated and elegant to the max, it proves that new energy can be found in greater levels of subtlety.
