Paris, France – Though this writer finds the coldest temperatures of winter absolutely appalling and beneath contempt, I may soon find myself softening my stance. This is due to the beautifully done new couture collection by the Russian queen of couture, Yulia Yanina. In order for it to do its full magic, cold weather is required.
As a citizen of Moscow, Julia Yanina has intimate knowledge and life experience in what it takes to be elegant even during the coldest months of the year. She takes that and instinctively places it in to her work. Her new Fall Winter 2017/18 is nothing less than a true testament to how elegance, style and a passionate desire to conquer cold weather may come together in one very satisfying body of work. Her new opus is quite possibly her most beautiful work yet. And though I recall saying the very same thing six months to a year ago, it is only the proof that her work seems to improve season after season as she continues to impress and EVEN SEDUCE US with her creative powers.
Delicious velvet, fur and wool felts are the toast of the town at Yanina this season. She uses them to form beautiful daywear, cocktail attire and formal occassion gowns. The starts by doing a masterclass on elegant shoulder work before revealing the skin through an almost naughty play with sheer fabrics. She embellishes her work with passionate embroideries that recreate the magic of individual snowflakes that have their own architectural structure. And to this she adds fantastic accessories such as her white fox fur capuches and lambskin leather faux cuissards boots !
