Riga, Latvia – If ‘hygge’ is a Danish idea, Cinnamon Concept is Latvia’s answer. The first few looks in the fashion house’s new Fall Winter 2017/18 collection are cozy pajama like ensembles of matching leggings and sweaters. In various contrasting colors, they appear in combinations of forest green, grey, navy, taupe and dark lilac.
During the show and just as the audience was ready to fall asleep (those pajamas looked cozy but the looks were nearly identical), the designer finally sent out the more conceptual looks. Though equally warm in wool and mohair, the sleek pencil skirts are constructed in mohair for a playful feel, and army green with a velvet stripe for a militaristic vibe. A two-tiered pleated skirt is constructed in both fabrics, which gives it the perfect edge for a winter look.
Basic black but not boring. Black dresses are illuminated with sprinklings of sequins that give off just enough shine without being overbearing. While fringed tops and dresses works less well in Cinnamon Concept ‘s work, the collection closes on a high note of coats. In a subtle navy and forest green plaid pattern, the backs of the coats are quilted with satin, which was a lovely touch and something not seen elsewhere. The coats are constructed well and feel complete, something that has been lacking in other collections presented during this anniversary edition of the Riga Fashion Week.
