<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Paris, France</strong> – Grand couturier Stéphane Rolland takes us to the Maison de Radio for the presentation of his new haute couture collection for Spring/Summer 2015. This time he is incorporating new materials like plastic in order to create new forms and shapes that allow him to reveal more while still remaining elegant.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Here Rolland takes us back to his very first solo presentation. That is to say that he has renewed with the beautiful, large but soft draping, the pure lines in the jumpsuit and dramatic volumes that give life to the ballroom gowns. These have always been a part of his universe but today, it seems as though he is going back to his true roots in the way that he is putting them under the spotlight.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">He opens with a slight silk chiffon gown in white. It has a large volume and nude back which allows to showcase other details. This volume would go on to be a staple in the collection. From there we see a long black ball gown that stops several inches above the ankles. The left side has beautiful draping, and it is finished with a small thin sleek belt in black.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Personally this writer is in love with his black jumpsuit in crepe. He does it with long sleeves, and spiffy rectangular backline and neckline. He emboldens its with light, sky firework embellishments on the shoulders in black jets. This rectangular neckline also returns in many looks in the collection too.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">As the show neared its end, Rolland sent forth several huge ballroom gowns. They are sumptuous, generously cut and divine. As the models that were lucky enough to be chosen to wear them moved through space and time, all one could do was sit in amazement at the genius of Stéphane Rolland.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Paris, France</strong> – Frank Sorbier’s is a magical world in which the beauty of haute couture comes face to face with the mystery and animation of the theatre. This season, he gathered the international press and his client’s together at the L’Oratoire du Louvre for a most precious presentation of his new collection for Spring/Summer 2015.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">At Frank Sorbier, nothing is left to chance. The hair and makeup must be perfect. The models must be equal parts catwalk diva and entertainer. The music is as meticulously selected as the place where the grand couturier stages his shows. The location provided the perfect setting for the unveiling of his creations. As the fog machines cranked out their thick, white product, bubbles began falling from the sky. And then we knew that the magic had begun.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">This season, the Frank Sorbier heroine delights us with her garments created in flowing fabrics, hand-painted imageries, embroideries and superior technique. The models have their hair intertwined into light and young tree branches, then set upon their heads.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Sorbier balances the collection between his flowing silhouettes of silk and chiffon and his pieces that appear “sculpted”. These latter are his crowning glory. We know this because these are his creations built upon a corset and then finished with meter after meter of compressed fabric. In this domain, Sorbier breathes rarified air !</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">This outing has special meaning to Sorbier. We see images of his lost love, “Pirate”. This little canary was with the grand couturier for 14 years until his recent death. We see his effigy appearing in several looks thanks to the embroideries.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Once the show was over, Frank Sorbier was greet thunderous applause and wild screams of “BRAVO FRANK !”</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Paris, France</strong> – Rami al Ali presents his new Spring/Summer 2015 collection in a very intimate setting away from the catwalks of Paris during the haute couture week. This season we see him bringing his creative energies and mastery of draping to fifteen breath-taking silhouettes.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">In any presentation of a collection one always can point out a favorite look. But in an exquisite collection of gowns such as the Spring/Summer 2015 collection of Rami al Ali, it is near IMPOSSIBLE to place one’s finger on “the favorite one”. However, one can say with great confidence that Ali’s black sleeveless gown with an asymmetrically cut bust and with exquisite embroideries is a fine example of what classic Hollywood stars like Rita Hayworth, Dorothy Dandridge and Veronica Lake would crave in today’s world.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The Syria-born, Dubai-based couturier is working with silk, tulle, gazar, lace, laser-cut materials, etc. Each silhouette is built upon an undetectable corset. And the delicate embroideries of Swarovski crystals elements and pearls are all handmade in Ali’s own ateliers in Dubai.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">In several of the gowns one finds the most graceful details of subtlety placed atop the bust. Here Ali adds an extra touch of femininity that is nearly lingerie-like. It immediately captures the eye’s attention and renders the wearer of the gown more sublime.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Ali does the vast majority of the collection in the traditional draping technique. Anywhere from the shortest of distance one would be easily fooled into believing that the gowns are designed on paper, cut and then sewn together. However, it is only upon close examination where one realizes Ali’s grand mastery of his art. The result leaves one speechless!</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Paris, France</strong> – Spring is the season for weddings. And with that in mind, Jean-Paul Gaultier has created an entire collection dedicated to the most important day in any woman’s life. Titled “<em>61 Facons de Se Dire Oui</em>” (or in English <em>61 Ways to Say Yes</em>), the grand couturier pulls out all the stops to impress including a cellophane and live orchids clad Naomi Campbell.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">On each seat of the fashion show were flowers to uphold the theme of a first wedding. The models first hit the catwalk to the sound of Billy Idol’s “White Wedding”. The audience immediately joined in with thunderous applause. Among the most notable (and loudest) members of the audience was the supermodel and former First Lady of France, Mrs. Carla Bruni-Sarkozy. The singer-songwriter vocalized numerous<em> oow</em> and <em>ah </em>sounds throughout the energy-infused show.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Piping is also a leitmotif among the details. We see it on the blazers, on the edges of the jackets, the dresses and skirts. They combine with the belts to create that consistency for which a collection must be known. The trench coat is knee length and left side in layers of tulle as associated to the aesthetic of the 1950s. The sides of many of the looks for the dresses, suits, and pantsuits were done with tulle on the side to replicate a half dress.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Gaultier then sent a jumpsuit with large shoulders. The long double-breasted coat that accompanied the trousers has HUGE shoulders. The jumpsuit then sets the tone for large trousers with flared bottoms and DRAMATICALLY HUGE SHOULDERS.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em>Le chic parisien</em> is well represented through the black skirt ensemble with half sleeves all in jersey. It is worn with a white long sleeved top in gazar. The look is finished with a beret on the models’s head.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">With all said and done, Gaultier gave the audience everything that it wanted. And he was rewarded with a shower of flower bouquets being tossed at his feet as he came down the runway with Naomi Campbell for one last bow.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Paris, France</strong> – When looking at the new collection by British duo Ralph & Russo one can easily see how the house has emerged as the champion of modern day haute couture from the British Isles. The collection is modern, elegant and very Hollywood.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Volume, proportions and movement are the keys to understanding the collection. It oscillates effortlessfully between closely cut looks and voluminous reverie. The show opens with a beautiful dress with a caped dress. Both have appliqués embroidered onto them in soft pastel pink. Each of the two elements has been cut to knee length.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Upon the introduction of the first suit, we see a two-piece ensemble that balances shape and fluidity. The skirt moves with its beautifully patterned embroideries. The jacket is structured. Laces appear next. The first is a computer generated “<em>new lace</em>” and is used in an off-the-shoulder party dress. The second is a slim fitting gown that instantly becomes a eye-catcher with its maxi-cape. The next is a two-piece, belted suit in white lace with sleeves cut to just below the elbows. This is one of the strongest sections in the collection.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The collection then evolves so that draping makes it presence known. And after this, we then head into the softest element of the collection in which we see flouncing added to the shoulders and bottoms of the dresses. This is the favorite section of this writer. It is without the artifice of embroideries or appliqués. It’s simply where a lovely frame is embellished with a beautiful gown.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Paris, France –</strong> For Spring/Summer 2015, Alexis Mabille is doing interesting things for the modern couture client. He creates for the woman of near unlimited financial means and who wants to be active, energetic and elegant. Though to the less experienced eye, some looks may seem to be out of step with the majority of the collection. This unfortunately may result some believing that the collection appears to be a bit all over the place.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The sequined looks are of course the most exciting looks in the collection. Mabille uses them to create three spectacular looks. The first is a tight-fitting buster gown in petrol blue; a corset string bustier gown with open flaps that recall of lapels; and long sleeved black gown with white embellishments at the shoulders and back. Though the hot pink jumpsuit is one of the elements that does not reflect the overall tone of the collection, its lapels do recall do make the case of the unison that defines the overall spirit.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Yes it is true that the black gowns with large floral prints are exquisite. However, they pale in comparison to some of the other gowns such as the one in white which is draped at the hip and which has with a bow and finished with the long cape; the emerald green one shoulder gown with draped waist; the sheath gown in purple with corseted bustier and single large lapel; and the final gown. This last is a sheath gown with a giant bow of unbelievable fantasy dimensions!</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Paris, France –</strong> Georges Hobeika shows his work in Paris this season by opening the catwalk presentation with a selection of cocktail dresses. Each has been cut above the knees. They have structure thanks to the material in which they have been created. Not all have plunging V-panel removed back. While some have fine embroideries, not all are sleeveless.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">From the opening section of the collection, Hobeika introduced his Spring/Sumer 2015 color palette, which include pastel mint, pink, yellow and white. These colors are very well together when one adds to them the Swarovski crystal studded micro-thin belts with little bows.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The couturier appears to be snubbing the growing trend in which many couturiers seem to be return to draping. No matter because he does include a nice amount of exquisite gowns with capes and cocktail dresses with micro-capes. He further spoils us with his use of lace to create full gowns. In this it is easy to see how few are they that could do it better than Georges Hobeika.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Paris, France</strong> – The new couture collection by Julien Fournié starts as a great contrast to the work that he performed six months ago. Instead of an immediate dominiation by the large volumes, we find tightly fitted pencil skirts with splits and high waist cuts. Immediately, an air of sophisticated emerges.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Spring/Summer is the season that always seems best suited for the designer’s propensity to work with all the elements that we love: softness, fluidity and elegance. On that note he created an amazing dress in taupe silk crepe. The sleeves are slim. It is draped and has a single button on the left side. He finished the look with a bit of volume for movement in the back. This is particularly beautiful as it creates an image of reverie as the woman moves through space and time.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The collection features a great number of maxi-length dresses. A great deal of them has trains. This became one of the most impressive elements of the collection. One must also appreciate the capuches that have been added to the dresses. One is a skirt at the waist with burgundy band dropped bust line long sleeves and train. Another favorite look is the wallet gown in crème with train. It has short sleeves and is embellished with 7 buttons on the left shoulder and 4 buttons placed vertically.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Jumpsuits are irrevocably a privileged piece for a woman’s wardrobe these days. And Fournié does them in abundance for Spring/Summer 2015. One should particularly enjoy the one done in prints.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The collection has beautiful accessories in the form of the shoes. They are colorful and original in their high heel form. However the flat, sports inspired shoes really broke the ambiance of ultra luxury. An eyesore, they ultimately should not have been placed in the show.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Fournié has worked extremely hard, paid his dues and has earned his legitimacy on the haute couture catwalks of Paris. But even that is not enough to prevent him from regularly making a very avoidable mistake: silhouette selection. In each of his collections there are always two to four looks that just don’t fit in well with the overall theme. But the overall quality of the collection is more than enough to have one overlook this occurrence.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">As the show neared its end, Fournié went into overdrive with the presentation of several more stunning looks. Among them is the resolutely beautiful metallic grey gown with an open back and bolero shoulders, sleeves and floor length maxi skirt bottom. There is the button down printed dress with long sleeves, slim in the front and large train in the back. And finally there is the number of full bottom ballroom gowns in crepes. Together they form the most beautiful part of the collection.</p>
