IDEAS BUT WITH NO SENSE OF DIRECTION
Spring/Summer 2014

Lviv, Ukraine – Valentina Nebarsky has presented a rather dark spirit for Spring 2014. In both the men’s and the women’s work, we see silhouettes heavily burdened with details. One takes issue with her military crop baby doll jacket. Its shoulders feature unnecessarily heavy rolls with unfinished edges. The problem is that for such a season one needs to feel light airy and carefree. This jacket does just the opposite and creates a heavy air of burden.
More attention could certainly be invested in the final fit of the designs. One could attribute it to a poor casting, but that would be too easy an excuse. Far too much fabric in one dress makes the models look like a little girl playing in her grandma’s closet.
In spite of these obvious design and aesthetical flaws, all is not lost. When disabused of the unnecessary elements, on find pieces that can be worn and be even popular but only during the fall and winter season. But certainly not for summer
The means looks feature some of the same problems as this. Pompoms on the back of a sleeveless lumberjack inspired flannel top… Wow. What can one say other than it is certainly not necessary. But the basic idea is there. And the humble smile on the designer’s face makes one want to give her a big hug and kiss…
