The American supermodel, Christie (Lee) Brinkley, was born in Monroe, Michigan on February 2, 1954. Thanks to her blond hair and all natural, clean-cut beauty, she symbolized the ideal of American beauty during the late 1970’s and during the 1980’s.
Her parents Herbert and Marge Hudson had her educated at the Lycée Français de Los Angeles. Christie originally intended to have a career in illustrating and even found employment in Paris as an entry-level illustrator.
After being discovered, Christie signed with Ford Models. She later left Ford for Elite Model Management. When Christie left, Eileen Ford told her that the door to return would always be open to her. She later left Elite and went back to Ford
During her time as one of America’s most recognizable faces in modeling, Christie posed for numerous covers of Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Mademoiselle, Glamour and Cosmopolitan.
In 1976, she signed a contract with Cover Girl Cosmetics, making her face known throughout all America. This contract, the longest ever in the modeling business, was continually renewed for twenty years.
From 1979 to 1981 during her heyday as the top American model, Christie appeared on three consecutive covers of Sports Illustrated swimsuit issues. In 1984, Christie posed for Playboy. She has also been featured in campaigns for Helena Rubinstein and Spiegel.
She became one of the first supermodels to publically join fashion and rock & roll in the main stream public’s eye. She starred opposite of Billy Joel in his Uptown Girl music video, shortly before they married.
She has been married four times and has 3 children. She was married from 1973 to 1981 to Jean-François Allaux. She married pop star Billy Joel and bore their only child together, Alexa Ray Joel, during their marriage, which lasted from 1985-1994.
She married in 1992 the millionaire Richard Taubman after a near fatal ski trip. Though their marriage was short lived, they had a son, Jack Taubman, in 1995, the year in which the couple divorced. She is currently married to the architect, Peter Cook. They married in 1996 and have a daughter named Sailor Lee.
Christie has never stopped working. She has been in hit films such as Lampoon’s National Vacation. She is a fan favorite and has made numerous guest appearances on the most famous of America’s hot talk shows including The Oprah Winfrey Show, The View and The Rosie O’Donnell Show.
Christie has starred in numerous videos. She has also been a presenter on televised award shows and television specials.
